Default Symantec got company focuses PGP encryption

Symantec said it would buy back company PGP encryption and security company Guardian Edge. Symantec will acquire companies PGP encryption and security company GuardianEdge respectively with 300 million dollars and $ 70 million. Both are two private companies. Symantec said the deal is still awaiting approval but hope to finish before June 2010.

According to Symantec, two companies specializing in e-mail encryption, file systems, storage devices and mobile and smart phones. These areas will complement Symantec's security products such as application security gateways, endpoint security and data loss prevention. Encrypted information will be safer in case of data lost or stolen. In early April 2010, the UK has increased fines under the Data Protection Act for agencies to lose any data up to a maximum of £ 500,000.

Symantec said it will standardize its products on the management of PGP, allowing centralized management of encryption tasks. Management platform will be integrated into the Symantec Protection Center, the driver managed Symantec products. GuardianEdge is a company specializing in security for the laptop, the mobile storage devices and smart phones. Previously, this company has partners of Symantec's endpoint encryption products.

Symantec said, GuardianEdge has particular strength in the market of state agencies. The two companies will be members of the Symantec Enterprise Security, by Francis de Souza as vice president.

The security company plans to integrate encryption products from PGP and GuardianEdge into its data loss prevention suite and endpoint protection products, it said in its acquisition announcement on Thursday.
"The two acquisitions will give us a market-leading position in the $1.4 billion per year encryption business," Symantec enterprise security group vice president Francis deSouza told ZDNet UK on Thursday. "At Symantec, we're focused on making data protection easier to manage, and these acquisitions represent a big step forward."
