Hewlett-Packard has extended a universal recall program for batteries that might reason laptops to overheat and pose a fire danger.

The company said it extra new battery models to an original laptop recall plan announced May 14 of last year and updated last October. The lithium-ion batteries are being utilized in more than 30 models universal in HP's laptop brands as well as Compaq Presario, Pavilion, HP and HP Compaq.

In a declaration counsel about the dangerous batteries, the U.S. user Product Safety Commission counsel consumers to "discontinue using recalled products instantly."
HP and CPSC were awake of two incidents where the batteries overheated, ensuing in flames and fire that causes property damage, the organization said. No wounds were reported.

The battery packs may have shipped in laptops created among August 2007 and May 2008. HP presumes that "fewer than 3%" of the laptops contained the affected battery packs.
