Intel expects to create a superior presence in TVs and set-top boxes with the Google TV platform, but the company has to defeat major obstacles with past failures and pricing worry.
Google, beside with partners Intel, Sony and Logitech declares on Thursday the Google TV platform, which will merge broadcast TV and Internet keen on one edge.
Google will provide the software, and the service will be obtainable soon this year in some Sony high-definition TVs and Blu-ray DVD players, for which Intel will provide the highly optimized Atom CE4100 chip.
Intel's microprocessors power more than 80% of the PCs global, but the company has yet to set up a occurrence in the TV space, in spite of multiple efforts to enter the market over the past decade.
Earlier efforts by Intel and former partners to shift TV content keen on computers were rejected by consumers, and now the company is altering policy to get Internet content into TV sets, set-top boxes and DVD players.
