Public who desire to protect their use of Google's Web hunt engine from network watch now have the alternative of encrypting the session with SSL protection.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology is intended to avoid illegal parties from sniffing data traveling between a user's PC and a server.
In the case of Google search, SSL will protect the transmission of search inquiry entered by users and the hunt results go back by Google servers.
Google will commence rolling out the encrypted version of its Web hunt engine on Friday. It will be obtainable by typing "https" in its place of "http" in the URL address bar.
"We think users will value this novel option for searching. It's a helpful addition to users' online solitude and safety, and we'll carry on adding encryption carry for more search offerings," wrote a Google software engineer, in an officer blog post.
The SSL Web search will be in beta, or test, mode for now and the consumer practice will differ from the normal service in a few ways.
For example, it will probably be slower because a safe connection has to be established. Initially, the SSL option will be available only for Web search and will not cover Google's specialty engines like image and maps search.
