Microsoft launched late last week a sample of its jQuery Globalization Plugins for adding globalization to JavaScript applications, a Microsoft official said in a blog post.

The plug-in works with jQuery JavaScript library, which is supported inMicrosoft's Visual Studio IDE.

"This plug-in contain globalization information for over 350 cultures variety from Scottish Gaelic, Frisian, Hungarian, Japanese, to Canadian English.  We will be launching this plug-in to the public as open-source," said Scott Guthrie, corporate vice president in the Microsoft Developer Division, in his blog.

Downloadable from Microsoft's Github depository, the example plug-in allows developers parse and format numbers, money and dates for diverse cultures in JavaScript, Guthrie said.

The plug-in uses language tags defined in the RFC 4646 and 5646 standards to identify cultures.
