The National Library of Australia (NLA) has more than twice its web services traffic to arrive at more than 2.5 billion strikes in 2009.
Talking at CIO Summit in Sydney, NLA assistant director of general information technology, Mark Corbould, credited many of the organization’s achievement to the utilize of open source explanations.
In 2006 across all of its online assets as well as public catalogue and Trove search engine, the NLA had half a billion web server appeals. This jumped in 2008 to over one billion and previous year hit more than 2.5 billion. “We are now most likely the highest ranked enlightening institution in Australia in terms of our web occurrence,” Corbould told the summit attendees.
In April NLA revealed its Trove search engine that was built on an open source platform. The search engine offers access to more than 90 million items regarding Australians and Australia, sourced from more than 1000 libraries and cultural institutions all over the country.
He said for an organization that prices approximately $70 million per annual to run by 450 personnel and 10% of its finances moving towards IT, there was slight possibility of protecting a commercial software license to do what NLA does.
