The European Commission proclaimed on Monday that it will start formal investigations into claims that IBM has mistreated its leading market spot in mainframe PCs.
The Commission, Europe's main antitrust influence, said that it will look into two divide cases of alleged violation of E.U.'s antitrust rules. Both cases are connected to IBM's behavior in mainframe PC market.
The initial case pursues criticisms by emulator software vendors T3 and Turbo Hercules who maintain that IBM is attaching its mainframe hardware to its self OS. Emulator software permits the PC to run software that it will not usually contain. The second case is being purchased by Commission itself above IBM's alleged unfair behavior toward rival suppliers of mainframe maintenance services.
