If you can't strike them, purchase them. As a minimum that's what executives at Intel Corporation seems to be belief.

It’s stated around Internet that the powerhouse chip creator is near to finalizing a deal with German semiconductor corporation Infineon Technologies AG to purchase its wireless chip unit. If such a deal goes through, it will be a benefit to Intel, which has resisted getting a footing in the lucrative smartphone market.

"Infineon chips are utilized in smartphones from iPhone to other famous phones," said Dan Olds, an analyst with The Gabriel Consulting Group. "The huge number of phones and presently smartphones is driving many chip sales, and Intel needs a piece of that pie. If Intel holds Infineon, it will certainly have an impact on market. With Intel's size and reach, they can put the spirited screws to other corporations and drive profits down."

Infineon proclaimed that executives have been in debates with "involved parties" regarding its wireless chip unit. "An important progress has been made in these discussions," the corporations said on its Web site, though the names of involved parties were not revealed.
