Google on Friday declared that it has taken over Slide, an online entertainment company interested in virtual communities. The gaining may assist Google improve its social networking objective and increase rumor that it is building a social networking platform focused on games.

Google stated that with the Slide possession, it is spending in additional ways to add social networking features to Google services. Gmail, Docs, Blogger, Picasa and YouTube previously have "sturdy social essentials," David Glazer, an engineering director at Google, said.

Slide creates virtual community software used on community networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. On its website, Slide says its objective is to build communities that let virtual goods to be created and circulated. Google did not disclose the price of the contract. Previous this week, TechCrunch, which first informed the deal, stated it was worth $182 million while the source later put the value at $228 million.
