After buying parts of Texas Instruments (TI) develops chips for cable modems, Intel wants to expand the applications Atom microprocessor devices in consumer electronics. TI contract with Intel reflects the will of the rise to consolidate position in competition with ARM Holdings to become the largest supplier of processors for consumer electronics devices.
Intel has tried several of their products to be compatible with the characteristics of mobile devices; things are very strict requirements on cost and energy consumption, requiring more capacity. However, volume sales are lagging behind Intel ARM. Throughout the years, sales of Intel microprocessors by different computing power but lost the ARM product consumption performance. When designing the line of Atom processors, Intel consider overcoming this lag compared to the ARM.
The chip uses TI's Puma 5 cable modem design using the human chip ARM processor. "Intel continues to sell Puma products used in cable modems to transmit voice and data and will develop components for cable switching applications. In the future, Puma will integrate technology with the Atom processor and will use them in the system architecture and application platform personnel.
