Optus will be the last main Australian Telco to carry out premium SMS barring when it stimulates the service on 11 October this year. The barring service will permit users to set a utmost amount able to be spent on premium SMS services on their account through the Optus Zoo site, even as being able to resolve issues with premium SMS messages through the Telco’s keen staff.

Optus subscribers can at present pre-register for the service by calling the Telco’s customer care line. Optus’ service comes three months after the 1 July target set by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) for all Telco’s, which the industry regulator restated in March.

As a result of its failure, Optus has suggested to an enforceable responsibility with ACMA to execute and activate the service. The regulator has indicated that other measures will be put in place as part of the responsibility, but has not revealed those for commercial reasons.
