Cisco has announced its intention to acquire the California company Arch Rock. The amount of the transaction is not specified. It will be finalized before the end of the year. Based in San Francisco, Arch Rock is a company owned by private capital specializes in solutions for IP networks, wireless sensor in the fields of energy, environmental monitoring, and smart grid applications. It is mainly these technologies smart grid energy distribution of particular interest to Cisco. Which intends to exploit the developments of Arch Rock to respond effectively to the demand for industrial run network on IP technology.
The network smart electricity meters will be based on such dedicated interconnected and aimed, in theory, to better manage the distribution and production of energy depending on demand. They are seen as a response to the problems of managing the distribution by geographical areas, to better match consumer and, ultimately, to reduce losses. What goes in the direction of minimizing the production and therefore of lower emissions of greenhouse gases implicated in climate change.
