Bulldozer chips are AMD's first release will be the processors (CPUs) Interlagos 16 core. 16/11/2010 Wednesday, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) said, in quarter 3 / 2011 it will begin rolling out Opteron server chip next-generation architecture based on new Bulldozer. The first server chip code-named Bulldozer is Interlagos, and will have 16 cores, Phil Hughes, an AMD spokesman said. Interlagos chips designed for servers, from high to medium and will replace the Opteron 6100 (code-named Magny-Cours) up to 12 cores.
Interlagos chips will start production in Q2 2011 and can be fitted into existing servers using Opteron 6100, Mr. Hughes said. The Interlagos chip socket compatible with older servers based on chips Magny Cours, which allows customers to quickly switch servers. AMD also said that next year they will release a chip code-named Bulldozer Valencia. Valencia is the 8-core chip and will replace the chip, 6-core Opteron 4100. Mr. Hughes declined to say when the chip will be released.
AMD Bulldozer micro architecture is completely built, bringing new features to increase speed and save energy. In internal bench marking tests, the company has measured the performance improvements of up to 50% in comparison with chip chip Bulldozer "seniors." To improve performance, the new architecture offers flexibility in how work is done on the processor core. The processor core can be paired to share the components inside the CPU. For example, the architecture can share the special constituents such as block floating point (FPU - floating point unit) between the two CPU cores. This flexibility also reduces the size of the chip (because they require fewer components than) and increased efficient power savings.
