Diaspora, social networks are built on open source, has opened for business Monday, at least for a few who were invited to participate. "Every week, we will invite more people", the project developer wrote in a blog item posted on 23 November to unveil an alpha version of the service. "By going to step slowly but surely, we can quickly identify performance problems, repeat the above features as quickly as possible."
The same caution is necessary, making the code clean better. In 9 / 2010, when the first version of the service code was published, it was quickly criticized as "sticky" multiple security vulnerabilities. Although Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook author can not worried about the Diaspora, this service is one of the growing effort to develop services and social networking software based on open source. Other services include Identical (Twitter like messaging services built on open source software), and GNU Free Software Foundation's Social.
Plan of four young students with the Diaspora is to enable users to participate retain ownership of all material they use on websites, and full control over the information that is shared how. It will also allow users to separate their social connections into groups of individuals, called aspects, and control groups to see what materials.
