Facebook is a short step to secure rights to use the word "Face" as a mark, thereby preventing their competitors use it in certain services related to online communication. Mark Zuckerberg's company was born in 2004, the patent application filed in December 2005. Has now received a notice of permission to formally request the rights to the word 'Face' by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the Patent and Trademark Office U.S..
Facebook will have to pay a fee and fill out a form which clearly specify the terms of use of the word. It must also show that actually in use to provide goods or services as claimed. This process must be approved by an attorney. The brand 'Face' would refer only to use in a specific context, which is collecting the approval of the patent office: telecommunications services, chat rooms and messaging boards for transmission of messages among computer users.
After the proliferation of video sharing sites that mimicked to YouTube now out in the 'You' or 'Tube',Facebook seems poised to defend its brand. Zuckerberg's company has filed a lawsuit against the network against Teachbook.com by the use of the term 'Book' which considers Facebook, try to take advantage of the popularity of its brand. Looking at other popular products of the technology industry, it is impossible to think of how it would affect this patent application 'Facetime' Apple to make video calls. In principle there should be problems between both companies since 'Facetime' has its own patent brand.
