An official notice was issued by Microsoft on Wednesday regarding Mac 2008 security update that patched four bugs. The company had owned up to this problem but had not provided any solution or fix to it last month. These flaws have retained themselves in the Office for Mac 2004. However, it remains unpatched as of now.

An update was issued by Microsoft on Nov 9, for the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. It was shipped two weeks earlier. The update patched all four bugs, rated ‘important’ and termed the second biggest threat to the company’s four step scoring system. Back then, Microsoft termed these as ‘remote code execution’ bugs owing to their ability to be used by hackers to infect the Mac with Malware.

Meanwhile, it has failed to produce an update Office for Mac 2008 and 2004.
Microsoft Jerry Bryant accepted that there was still work remaining on the updates for Mac office 2004 and 2008. He also added that the company had chosen to issue completed fixes, especially to the popular Office suites for Windows.

He added that although the normal trend was to release updates for all affected products simultaneously, viewing the vast majority of the risk, they are providing protections to customers. They might choose to release the products when ready, before other low risk products.

Microsoft released an accompanying note on their support site saying the update Office for the Mac 2008 issued on Wednesday, contains a number of stability improvements to the email client included in the version of the suite, Entourage. The update itself weighs close to 333MB.The release date for the Office for Mac 2004 fixes has not yet been set.

The patches for the application suite of the Mac version had been delayed by the company even before. In fact, the shipping of its patches for the Windows version of PowerPoint had brought Microsoft stern criticism. They had done so after delaying fixes for the same flaws in the Mac software in the previous month.

Customers can also update their Microsoft Office for Mac from the official site of Microsoft, through the download of the 12.2.8 update. On the other hand, they could also choose to utilize the auto update feature on the site to find and install the patches on their Office.

The site’s auto update feature lists the release date of the update as Tuesday, Dec 14 in the coming week. This is considered by many to be the Patch Tuesday of the month for the company. This means that Microsoft may have pushed the patches a number of days before unlike what was originally planned.
