Here’s great news for the techno-savvy people. Samsung Electronics has finally announced the completion of first DDR4 dynamic RAM module’s development. It has employed 30-nanometer (nm) class lithography process technology for creating this innovative module. At present, it is believed to be the smallest circuitry technology. This enhanced technology will be capable of delivering twice the performance of the currently available DDR3 DRAM. Moreover, it will also decrease the power consumption by 40% when used in a laptop.
Specifically, the DDR4 modules is said to perform operations at a high speed of 1.6Gbit/sec. to 3.2Gbit/sec., whereas the DDR3 is capable of performing at 1.6Gbit/sec. In comparison with the latest module, the DDR2 stands no chance to perform well as it is capable of delivering up to 800Mbit/sec.
When the announcement about the first DDR4 module was made, the market research firm iSuppli had reported that the price of the DRAM will continue to slash down. It was noticed that the price of the currently available DRAM, including DDR3 and DDR2, has plummeted till the last month of 2010. According to the experts, the rates of the DRAM are basically an impact of the soft PC demand. This was particularly noticed in the first half of 2010. Besides, it was also observed that greater supply of commodity memory was also one of the reasons. Thus, there was a sudden rise in the shipment by the second half of the year.
According to the experts, nothing specifically can stop the plummet of the DRAM price.Apparently, the cost of the DRAM has reached $1/ GB. In sometime, the producers willnotice that the cost of the production will exceed the selling price. If this continues, then the manufacturers will have to slow down the production. Not only did iSuppli warn about the drop in prices, a Taiwan-based trading companyDRAMexchange also confirmed this news. So, do not be surprised to know that DRAM chip prices have already reached a one-year low. The sole reason is the post-holiday floods.
Now, the DDR4 DRAM will be the new hero in the industry as it will help the cutting-edge green memory. Samsung has announced the launch of 4GB DDR4-based products that is based on the next-generation process technology. This module is dedicated to the mainstream application. The other highlight of this latest DRAM module is the data transfer speed. It has the capability to transfer data at 2.133Gbit/sec. at 1.2 volts. At an equivalent 30nm-class process technology, this rate is much higher as compared to the DDR3 DRAM that delivered upto 1.6Gbit/sec.
Apart from that, the DDR4 works on the Pseudo Open Drain (POD) technology, which isgenerally used for high-performance graphic DRAM. Thus, the DDR4 DRAM will be able to consume nearly half the electric current when compared to DDR3. So, the power consumption will be low when you are reading or writing the data.Get more updates on JEDEC standardization of DDR4 technologies soon.
