In this competitive world, the leading manufacturers have many things to praise about their products and comment on the rivals. A similar situation was noticed at the International Consumer Electronics Show. The president of Microsoft Windows, Steven Sinofsky bashed Apple while previewing its next generation Windows during CES in Las Vegas. According to him, the owners of the Apple products experienced an inconvenience while using the products as the company lacks proper convergence across all the devices like iPhone, iPad, iPod and MacBook.
This comment was related to an incident in Sinofsky’s life. He remembered traveling in a plane, wherein a passenger besides him was using a series of Apple devices during the journey. Firstly, the passenger used his iPhone for messaging and calling before the flight took off. Later, he saw the passenger watching a movie on the iPad, and even listening to music on the iPod. By the end of the flight, he utilized the MacBook when the plane was landing. On looking at the person using different devices for different purposes, Sinofsky said that that is not principally converged.
He pointed at the current scenario where people are not willing to carry three or four devices during their travel. Thus, the president of Microsoft Windows announced the plans to bridge the gap across PCs and mobile devices. The next generation of Windows will play a major role in this project once it is rolled out in 2012. However, he still doesn’t have a clear picture on how the future Microsoft products will enable the consumers to fuse some devices together.
At present, the company is representing merely next-generation tablets and PCs. The mobile phone category remains uncovered. But, the firm’s representative stated that they are thinking to use Windows Phone 7 as a separate OS for smartphones only. At the same time, Windows will work on all other devices. However, it is a difficult task for Microsoft to run two separate operating systems. It is still vague about how the company will manage the convergence across phones and PCs. Whatever may be the present situation, Sinofsky is confident that the future will be much better.
However, Microsoft had made a big movie for its Windows PC OS. It is said to run on ARM processors. With this, the company will take Windows to the fast-growing market for tablet computers. Currently, this market is dominated by Apple and Google. Anyway, the company assumes that the next-gen Windows will release in 2012 or possibly by the end of 2011.
Earlier, Windows 7 was criticized of lacking the robust tablet touch-screen functionality which is available in an iPad. But, this time, the company has showed its progress by demonstrating several Windows-based products that offer many touch-screen experiences. These are still in the development stage. Additionally, the Microsoft Windows 7 user interface was also confirmed. However, it wasn’t previewed at the CES event. So, let’s wait to see what Microsoft has in its kitty to offer the consumers.
