Microsoft has stated that it would not be reasonable to compare its Internet Explorer 9 with Mozilla’s latest browser in the face of the record-setting launch by the latter.
Senior Director of IE marketing Ryan Gavin states that instant comparisons between IE 9, Firefox 4, and Chrome 10 regarding their uses and downloads is premature.
One day following the launch on 14th March by IE, Microsoft watched the 2.3 million copies downloaded in the first 24 hours. After one week, Mozilla shipped Firefox 4, and it logged 7.1 million downloads in the first 24 hours and a further 8.75 million the next 24 hours. The count of 8.75 million was greater than the record of 8 million downloads that Firefox had set in 2008 regarding their search browser Firefox 3. This was pertaining to the most downloaded software within a period of 24 hours.
As per Gavin, IE9 will get in action only when Microsoft will enable automatic updates on its Windows update service. He asserted that there are certain differences in the upgrades of every browser maker. This factor makes the early comparisons insignificant. The current users of beta or release candidate builds of the browser are introduced to IE9 through Windows Update by Microsoft.
When Gavin talks about Firefox 4 and Chrome 10, he claims that the update mechanism of these two new browsers has played vital role in their initial release to web (RTW). But, this is not the complete truth.
On the other hand, Google is trying to save the “stable” build of its Chrome in the background in sluggish manner. They have launched Google Chrome 10 just three weeks ago. At the same time, Mozilla still has to provide the upgrade offer for users running the older Firefox 3.6 browser. Well, Firefox 3.6 users should facilitate the first update to the newest version of that edition. Eventually, they can manually check for an update to recognize what Firefox has in the box to offer.
On Wednesday Mozilla’s spokeswoman informed that a new offer termed “major upgrade” is launched for the traditional Mozilla Firefox. This offer has been unveiled nearly after 60 to 90 days of the launch of a new browser. However, the representative of Mozilla said that the major upgrade offer for Mozilla Firefox is likely to emerge soon.
Gavin declares that the early comparisons are not justified and awful. According to him IE9 will not reach all the users until June. In this month Windows Update offer will get squashed up. Honestly, there is no use of making unfair comparisons between Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s newest browser. He adds that early comparisons are always premature and baseless. Such statements can prove to be misleading for the potential users. Apart from that Gavin promises to better placed in future and get sense for relative progress and adoption. Everybody wishes that Gavin will meet his promise and get back on feet to justify it points.
