A maker oftechnology that lets Linux administrators to infuse security updatesin the user’s system without having to reboot the system –Ksplice is now owned by Oracle. The news was confirmed yesterday whenOracle claimed its ownership. Ksplice is a Cambridge, Massachusettsbased company that has gained over 700 customers in a myriad ofindustries, since its inception in 2008.

According toOracle, the “zero downtime” capabilities of Ksplice will providestrength to Oracle's Unbreakable Enterprise Linux Kernel. The companyhas plans to make Ksplice a standard feature in its Linux PremierSupport. With the inclusion of Ksplice, users will no longer have towaste money and time with expensive and disruptive system reboots,which was a part of the monthly Linux kernel security updates.

Oracle is keen tomake use of Ksplice's potentials to complete against the arch rivalsRed Hat to strengthen Linux Support. In a statement, Oracle commentedthat Oracle has no plans in the future to support Red Hat EnterpriseLinux or SUSE Enterprise Linux.
