On Tuesday, Dell made a majorannouncement about its first Ultrabook, the XPS 13. This has trulycreated some noise among the presence of Consumer electronics Showheld at Las Vegas.
The laptop introduced by Dell lookspretty similar to Apple’s, MacBook Air having a 13 inches widescreen weighing 2.99 pounds. The new Ultrabook is only 6mm (0.2inches) thick. The battery life of laptop is really good and can runup to eight hours without getting exhausted.
Dell is moving away from consumerproducts and paying all its focus on the profitable market ofbusiness computers as well as mobile devices. The new UltraBook XPS13 is the first step in this domain. The company had already stoppedthe development of its Mini netbooks and Streak tablets which are notpopular among the customers. The consumer PC’s of Dell have beenpaying focus on laptops and desktops such as Inspiron and XPS.
According to the Dell’s spokesperson,The XPS 13 is “squarely aimed” to the professional community butwill be open for sale in market only with the aid of consumerchannels.
XPS 13 is ultrathin but offers all thefunctionality of a traditional, standard sized laptop according tothe spokesperson of Dell. The new 13 inch laptop has been beautifullydesigned to fit in the frame of an 11 inch laptop so that the userscan enjoy the stunning experience of a full sized keyboard and alarger screen in a smaller package.
At the present date, the company hasquoted the starting price of XPS 13 as US $999 and will be availablein the market from late February or early March. Yet, Dell has beengreatly criticized for the high price of laptops, which the companyis planning to lower the price of Ultrabook to $699 by the end of2012.
The XPS 13 is bestowed with a uniquemobility feature which is exclusive to late Ultrabook having theSmart Connect Technology. In this, the emails as well as socialnetwork feeds are updated even when the laptop is in its sleep mode.According to Dell, XPS 13 boots in just a few seconds.
The laptop is fitted with Intel’sdual core, core i3, i5 or i7 processors based on themicroarchitecture of Sandy Bridge. The storage capacity of solidstate drive is 256 GB and RAM is around 4 GB. The laptop also has aUSB 3.0 port along with a webcam. The laptop will be released in USfirst followed by other parts of the world.
These laptops are backed by Intel in anattempt to rejuvenate the drooping PC market. The market has alreadybeen dominated by tablets. According to Intel, the future Ultrabookswill possess the features of tablet such as touchscreens andalways-on connectivity.
Ultrabooks have already dominated theCES show floor as well as the PC makers including Lenovo,Hewlett-Packard and Acer. It is expected that the Ultrabooks bestowedwith new Ivy Bridge Microarchitecture will fasten the performance aswell as graphics.
