Good news has arrived forthe Enterprises. They can now run Windows server in Amazon’s Cloudfor a maximum duration of 750 hours every month at no extra charge. This can be done by using the service of AWS (Amazon Web Services)free usage tier as announced by the company on Sunday.

According to theannouncement by the company, the firms which run the application onthe Windows server can also try out the Amazon cloud at no extracost. Here the users have the option to select from a vast range ofpre-configured Amazon Machine images with the Microsoft WindowsServer 2008 R2.

The server image ofWindows runs on the Micros Instance or Virtual servers which includethe memory of 613 MB as well as 32 or 64 bit support.

The free usage tier whichwas released in 2010 has so far been only available with Linux butthe enterprises can now easily run both the operating systems for upto 750 hours per month for a year. In addition, the firms can alsopay regular fees of US$0.02 per hour for Linux and $0.03 per hour forthe Windows users.

Thus, if the usageexceeds the limitations of the tier, it would require some extrapayments. It can be understood like that if two Windows Server 2008R2 instances are active for periods of 400 hours each, during asingle month, the accumulated usage will be 800 hours, of which 750hours would be free and remaining 50 hours would be billed at thestandard price.

The tier also includesthe limited usage of Amazon’s load balancer, storage services aswell as the Simple DB database. The storage offered to the usersincludes S3 and Elastic block store.
