    Default

Boot to Ubuntu Operating System. Let off the terminal and go into sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst. (Its a "L" and not "1").

Look for for the statement "default" in the subsequently window. Modify "default 0 ". Insert the number equivalent to windows XP (default N if N was the line no. for XP entry) item first name in your boot list. And that will do it. Please create a backup of the menu.lst file before editing in case if you perform something wrong.
