At present there are three method being available for recovery:
Creation / usage of a floppy with GRUB boot loader. Grub configured on floppy to spot to Linux kernel on hard disk.
Creation / usage of a floppy with LILO on the Master Boot Record (MBR) to be spotted to the Linux kernel on an accessible hard drive for boot. This is usually done when the MBR is being ruined, overwritten by the installation of one more operating system otherwise as an substitute to configuring the hard drive MBR for dual boot.
Creation / usage of a recovery floppy which includes a tiny Linux kernel on the floppy with the appropriate drivers to boot the machine to execute recovery operations. While this is more difficult, it does not want a operational Linux Operating System on the hard disk. Given that Linux can build up a Windows partition, it is also a feasible way for recovering data from a MS/Windows drive.
