Default Linksys wireless n broadband router

    Hello,

On putting in installation CD for WRT160NL the set up dialogue box does not emerge on desktop The sound of CD drive is very loud. Other CDs on this PC are running very well. We tried it on a windows computer with dialogue box appears as probable. Can someone help me. I am using HPamd64 DV5000 laptop.

The disc you have is probably a windows driver disc. So this is of no use to you in Linux. What are you trying to get with the CD? If it is first setup which cannot be ended using some web interface, I recommend you to make use of the CD in a Windows system.

So,perhaps you must believe just by the Windows to setup the router. I don't have a hint, why you suppose windows autorun.inf = autoplay mechanism to be supported on Linux - what for?

Thanks for your help. My linux computer is by now linked to a Linksys wireless router but the router is old as well as crooked and we have bought a newer model WRT160NL .I was doubt could we hook up manually to the new router without using the CD? On the box of the Linksys it says powered by linux as well as a Mac sign.

The disc that comes with Linksys routers doesn't in fact enclose any drivers. Frequently it has a Windows/Mac program to help you set up your router for the first time. If you have a Windows installed computer, the best technique would be to employ the CD on it to do the initial setup and after that just hook up to your new-fangled wireless network on Ubuntu as you usually would.

As for the box saying that it's power-driven by Linux, I think that it's openly referring to the router itself (the router runs various form of Linux).
