Thread: No sound: Ubuntu 9.1 running in VMware 6.5.3 on Win 7

I guess there is sound when the Ubuntu splash screen is up while Ubuntu is also running - all I hear a pair of low pitched sounds just quick fragments. Following boot-up I hear no system sounds (that option is chosen). And while Rhythmbox is playing all I listen to is a indiscriminate fragment of sound once in a while. These sounds are extremely comparable to what you'd hear with in fact loose speaker cables. My system is an HP 6710b notebook, as well as sound works completely in Win 7, which is the host OS for the VMware virtual machine that I have Ubuntu installed in.

Have you enabled sound in the VMware settings, with the exact VMware settings for sound?

Thanks for your reply. The sound card is enabled in VMware settings - there's no change in the trouble whether I have it set to make use of the default host sound card or else the further option to identify the sound card (there's only one to select).
