Thread: Problem while installing Ubuntu 9.10

I initially had Ubuntu 9.4 installed as well as tried to upgrade it to latest version 9.10 as the update manager provoked. Now I an m=not able to start the GUI. I managed to go into the restore mode as well as start GUI with startx. It does not recognize any of the devices. I tried to backup my files on a USB which it recognizes but when i click on the image i find a pop-up with "Unable to mount location" as well as "Not Authorized". Even the sound does not work. I guess the drivers for all these devices are not installed. How can I set up all the devices without having to re-install all once more? You help will be much respected.

To make your life easier it is well again to state re-install from FRESH. Upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 is for specialist.

I don’t even attempt it and im a nook! You will also observe there are further people who are facing the similar issue so somewhat is going on/wrong.

Thanks for your quick reply. I was only subsequent the Upgrade note as it appeared as well as followed allowed it to upgrade automatically. Before I re-install although, any suggestions how I can mount my USB port so I can at least backup the data?

A simple method to recover your data would be to boot a Live CD (by the install disk, choose the selection to try Ubuntu without making changes to your PC). You could after that copy your data off to a USB stick as well as do your upgrade.
