In Ubuntu 9.10 Gnome terminal 2.28.1 does not carry out the .bash_login or else .bash_logout files. Is there a setting to build this occur? I do not observe one in the preferences panel.

I wish this to take place so I can carry out the following to save the history of the shell:

cd ~/.historydir

hi | gzip -c > history.`date "+%y%m%d"`.$$.gz

Note: hi is aliased to history
