Whenever i attempt to unlock synaptic package manager it declares :E: Type 'gksudo' is not recognized on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list

E: The list of sources could not be read.

Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.

E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

I am currently using Ubuntu 9.10

Attempt to alter the starter's command to "gksu /usr/sbin/synaptic" (without the "" of course). I further guess your sources.list is ok. Check it with "sudo nano -v /etc/apt/sources.list" though. At last a cache open error was presented. Maybe you'd check that as well by entering "sudo nano -v /var/log/messages" or else "sudo nano -v /var/log/lastlog". In case this doesn't help aim to locate answers by a search engine or else inform us the results of the abovementioned commands here.
