Default Accessed Laptop using Linux "knoppix" CD to recover docs and pix when Win xp prob w/config sys?

Cpu worked fine, shut down, then 20 min later rebooted to move docs & pix to usb external and error screen came up saying corupt or missng config sys file in win xp. I heard the Linux CD (knoppix) can be used to boot from cd drive so I can access docs and pix to move to external via usb. If you have done this before... how do i get to the docs once the desktop ox CD boots? And how do I move the doc's? HELP.

It's IDENTICAL to how you'd do it in Windows. Download the CD here: http://www.knoppix.net/Put it in your CD rom and make sure your bios is set to boot from CD ROM. The image will load into memory and you'll have a new operating system (briefly) on the screen youll have a computer folder which will have your hard drive in which you can access like Windows, just double click through the folder. Your USB stick should work if you plug it in, just copy and paste, not much else to it really. When your done click shut down and take the CD out next time you boot. If you were more linux proficient you could probably fix your drive with a similar method :-).

That is the very reason I have both Knoppix and Mepis live CD's . Bow to the penguin, all hail Tux!
