    Default Uniwill 223 Ii Linux

Well this year one of my resolutions is to learn more about Linux, just to have a little history laptop for music, movies, internet and email, but not a big windows on it .. As a machine to make me hand, I took out the good old Uniwill223ii who had done so much talking in his time Mine has 1.5giga Ram and a 2.0Ghz centrino proc The disk is a 60G at 10,000 rpm.

Not a very young machine tell me (especially the graphics perfs) but hey, it is still in good condition and above all it is a good compromise between the netbooks and the "large" laptop For now I installed Ubuntu 9.10 just to see . Here ca is running, but two or three tricks does not work:

The sound card and therefore the audio and video players do not even launch and The "logitech" Ubuntu (handy for newbies like me) and Synaptic Package Manager and Update Manager.

Ubuntu runs on machines much older than yours as P3. As it happens against some stuff to not work, usually exotic. Before tweaking to find how to operate your sound card in Ubuntu, you can try: Fedora and Mandriva also OpenSuse they are user friendly distributions like Ubuntu is.

Ubuntu actually runs well at the beginning I had disabled all visual effects, as a precaution, but then I gave them and it works just as well.I'm really impressed with the install in 25 minutes (from a CD) almost everything is functional, even the wifi and bluetooth on windows that made me fart a cable.

Frankly for a beginner like me, it's really not bad versions of these all-inclusive, it works directly, it's pretty, it's even faster for once it is installed against a thing is the large galley. As the "Logitech" and trick "source software" do not walk home, I tried to do "as the great" with packets and the terminal.Bin there frankly is not joy, 1 hour to install flash player and not work completely (include time it works, sometimes not).

Xubuntu is not for laptops, it's just another desktop manager that is used, XFCE.

    Ubuntu> Gnome
    Kubuntu> KDE
    Xubuntu> XFCE

But otherwise it's the same distro just the basic apps that came with the environment that are different. However you can mix, I mean you can choose XFCE if that's the one you like best and use software from KDE. The simplest approach are Gnome and XFCE. KDE is interesting but its very advanced configuration options can quickly get lost and terms of resource, XFCE is the one that takes the least amount of 3, Gnome and KDE is in the middle takes most of the 3.
