Default Ubuntu 8.10 in addition to WinXP

I did not now time to deal with Linux and Ubuntu so I'm worried 8.10, in my computer Sits a 500GB SATA drive running on the WinXP, i have also have an old 80GB IDE drive lying around that I wanted to use for the Ubuntu install. But how is it now with the set up, can I setup the disk format simply, and then set up Ubuntu, would it be any simple to make a division on the just as built-in SATA HDD for Ubuntu or Windows, and Linux are on the same plate in the way?

The Ubuntu does it mechanically, the installer will find out the Windows set up, and adds it to the boot loader with one no, would go good, you have to measured that the Ubuntu installer not you just format the whole disk, if to the partitioning is to not take all case the fully automatic mode.

Well that helps me most definitely continue, quite many thanks for that, i think I'll probably still prefer to take the safe variant and hang the IDE drive back into the system, what there should be still on it is all gone anyway.

I can also recommend ubuntuusers de because really there is anything you need to start forum is also top, if you can use the whole 80GB drive, you would just be careful where you reign schreibt Ubuntu boot loader. So I've so soon shot few of my MBR at better, you view to it that the 80Gb IDE drive is distinguished as the first, then the Windows HDD, then you install Ubuntu and boot loader on the IDE disk.
