    Default Debian 5 version on intel amd

    Hello, I was now about to switch from ubuntu to debian, i got the DVD images as bi me on the PC, but only the intel x86 version, my question now is can I install the x86 version on my AMD Athlon XP Please do not reply with something like 'probiers out, "I have tried and it did not work out, but this may be due to my DVD drive because it had difficulties with debian-based distributions have always been.

    The AMD Athlon XP, on Intel x86-based processor, ergo, it is also compatible.

    One should perhaps add that there is no Intel and AMD versions exist, the only differences lie in the architecture, ie x86 (32-bit), x64 (64-bit), PPC, SPARC, etc.

    Exactly x86 halt was developed by Intel and is therefore sometimes called the intel x86, in the Linux community, however, frequently i386, x86-64, that is what is known today commonly referred to as 64-bit processor is usually called amd64, as developed by AMD, also use Intel's 64bit AMD64 CPUs.

    So on the debian-page get updated very often downloads for alpha, amd64, arm, amel, hppa, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, sparc and s390, what is the whole, i think it should se but only amd64 and i386 many thanks that you helped me. Now I know in my dases beknackt drive must be and I had been afraid that I must download it all over again at 70 kb / s does it take quite a while, many thanks.

    Well, it is probably necessary in such versions exist or they would not be offered, do not know what all this is, but as I hppa and ia64 suggests that these are special CPU architectures which are used in high performance computing.
