Recently, I tried to to convert my working IDE drive system to a SATA drive. The board is a Soyo P4VTE P4. The drive is a SATA WD 500GB unit.

When I plug the drive into the board and pull up the bios (AMI), no drive is seen. The SATA is the only drive in the box. I have switched cables, enabled/disabled/enabled the SATA function in the bios, all with negative results. The drive DOES work in another box, so I am confident the drive is not the issue. Reading other forums, the VIA chipset has had difficulty with some SATA drives.

I can't flash the bios (I don't think) because the file is an exe with requires Windows.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated,
