The DKA790GX Platinum belongs to MSI's premium range of motherboards with a bunch of special features for additional stability and overclocking. The board is based on the AMD 790GX chipset along with the SB750 southbridge and is compatible with AMD's latest series of Phenom II processors. However, the BIOS has to be updated to the latest version to support the new processors. The biggest advantage of the 790 GX chipset is that it features an integrated graphics processor (Radeon HD 3300) as well as support for CrossFireX (both Hybrid and multiple discrete GPUs). The on-board Radeon HD 3300 is fueled by 128 MB DDR3 memory and the rear panel has D-sub, DVI and HDMI video outputs. As per the specifications of.the chipset, the DKA790GX supports up to 16 GB of DDR2-1066 memory and has two PCle x16 slots for clubbing two graphics cards in CrossFireX (dual x8 mode).

The DKA790GX sports all-solid capacitors with uniform height. Even the height of the PCI Express slots, USB headers, voltage regulators and RAM slots is the same as that of the capacitors. The cooling system is very prominent and comprises a cylindrical copper heatsink with fins sticking out from the edges for cooling the northbridge, and a smaller circular one for cooling the southbridge. The two are connected by copper heatpipes. A unique feature of this board is a pair of switches for overclocking the bus speed. These can be set in four combinations-default, 10 percent DC, 15 percent DC and 20 percent DC. So you can overclock your processor even if you aren't familiar with the BIOS settings. But the success will depend on the model of the processor and type of memory you are using.
