I recently upgraded my RAM to 3GB. I have 1GB DDR2 module in slot A and a 2GB DDR2 module In slot B. On rebooting my PC, it warned me that for max performance there should be equal memory in both slot. Was my upgradation a waste of money ?

The warning about performance impact is because your memory interface will run in single channel mode instead of the preferred dual channel mode. The board will need two identical modules (capacity, specifications and brand) in both memory slots to run in dual channel mode. However, since you were already running your system on single channel mode with a single 1GB memory module, you will see a significant boost in performance with the additional 2GB of memory, especially if you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7. You will have to upgrade to 4GB total memory (2GBx2) for dual channel memory operation. Though only 64-bit versions of Windows operating system will be able to read and address all 4GB of memory. If you plan to run latest games with maximum resolution on your PC, we recommend a 4GB upgrade, or else 3GB in single channel should suffice.
