The Corsair XMS Pro PC3200c2 Memory Sticks
The obvious things about kit are black aluminum heat spreaders. Due to their size and ridges, they are expected to have 95% greater surface area than normal memory heat spreaders. That must help dissolve any memory heat.
While some people think that heat spreaders don’t help memory, latest tests circulated by a tester from Corsair explained that you can obtain a handful of MHz more when over clocking chips with them. Just looking at these spreaders, they surely do not look like they will be outdone by any of the other designs I have seen.
There are light going on it. For windows, this actually adds an entire new element of activity to inside of your case.
Setting it up: Adjusting the memory timings and voltages
By memory installed in test system, I opened CPU-Z to look at timings and frequency. It turned out that BIOS automatically detected timing 3-3-3-8, rather than advertised 2-3-3-6. This small difference was due to JADEC standard of memory being 3-3-3-8, which you can notice in SPD timings below. In your PC the BIOS will use this as a default. Corsair set this to ensure that majority of PCs able to boot with RAM, even if they can't push up timing to specifications.
Everybody wants to make a manual adjustment to reach 2-3-3-6, as that is how memory was designed. I went into BIOS and strike up voltage from detected default of 2.60V to 2.75V, level that Corsair tested memory at. After that, I altered two timings that were different. All went smoothly, even though I am checking memory on a motherboard which is not on Corsair's compatibility certification.
You can notice SPD timings in second screen, which will tell BIOSs the defaults. When you purchase memory, remember to make quick settings adjustment so you have 2-3-3-6.
After striking voltage up and lowering timings, there was not much flexibility for an overclock. Corsair possibly built this as RAM to do well at their tested specifications and over clocking was not important. Even without over clocking, you will see this kit has some speed in our benchmarks.
