The Asus M4A785TD-V EVa features AMD's brand new 785G chipset, which is powered by the Radeon HD4200. The board supports all socket AM3 Phenom " processors and is designed to accommodate 16 GB of DDR3-1333 MHz memory. 64 bit Windows as will need to be installed to make use of memory over and above 3.5 GB. Like all 7 series AMD motherboards, this too comes integrated with 128 MB DDR3-1333 MHz of dedicated video memory. The 785G motherboards are also the first motherboards to support DirectX 10.1 along with Shader Model 4.l. The Radeon HD4200 GPU is designed to playback High Definition videos and Blu-ray movies, which translates to a lot of money saved since the user doesn't have to invest in a powerful processor and graphics card. Towards the rear you will find an HDMI out, an SPDIF jack, the D-Sub and DVI ports, an eSATA port, six USB ports, 1 F,irewire port and 7,1 channel audio jacks. The board also features the new SB710 Southbridge that handles 5 SATA and 1 IDE port, 12 USB ports and HD audio. There are 2 PCle 2,0 slots, 1 PCle xl slot and 3 PCI slots. The second PCle slot runs at a lame x4 speed and doesn't support CrossFireX but has been added to support an extra display card. The overall layout is the best we have seen in this roundup. The board also boasts of all solid capacitors and includes a 10-phase power design for the CPU.
The on board HD4200 IGP will not break any performance barriers but will be able to handle full HD playback at 1080p without a discrete card. But, if you are an average gamer you can run Hybrid CrossFire by clubbing the board with either the Radeon HD4650, the HD4550 or the HD4350.
