The Motherboard, Processor, and Memory - Installing the Memory Modules
Handle the memory modules by the corners and be sure to be static-safe all the times. Memory chips are very sensitive to static discharge.
Don’t touch the metal contacts that join one part to another like the contacts on a memory module on the side that sleeps in the motherboard sockets. The oil on the fingers can obstruct good contact and cause issues.
1. Memory modules have notches on the side with the metal pins that correspond to bumps in the memory slots on a motherboard. Look at the DIMM module. Then, find the first slot on the motherboard. Open the plastic clasps on each side of the slot.
2. Align the memory module with the notches on the DIMM facing the bumps in the base of the slot. Insert the DIMM directly in its slot.
3. Put pressure equally over the whole module till the time it slides in its slot; the 2 plastic clasps should raise and close around the DIMM of their own accord. It’s important to see that the DIMM is placed properly; if not, the PC won’t start.
