Thread: i installed my old hardisk (from my old pc) into my new pc,, should i reinstall windows xp now ??

hi alli have an old pc with windows xpi bought a new motherboard,cpu,ram and used my old hardisk from my old pc in my new one,,,,should i now reinstall windows ?if no how can i change the boot to be suitable for my hardisk( i know alot in pcs and hardword but stuck in this one, and honestly i think there must be a way to solve this problem without reinstalling xp)thanks all

You could possibly try the repair option on the windows xp boot disk. I think you may have to re-install the whole thing though due to the new motherboard.

you don't have to reinstall the windows if it works. To select a booting device, I think you have to press F8 or F12 depending on your mother board. There try to look for booting priorities, when you find that, set your hard drive as 1st boot.

Lots of your settings may need to be redone due to the new hardware. Probably better just to reinstall.

You need to re-install windows. Windows boots up knowing what your hardware is (RAM, Motherboard, USB, so many other things). Changing over the hard drive to a new computer, it now has all new hardware. So windows tries to boot up thinking you have what ever, but you have some new device. This well cause problems. Reinstall windows.
