Default The comparability of DDR2 and DDR3 memory

I can add a DDR3 memory module on a motherboard designed for DDR2 memory?

No, you can insert DDR3 memory modules, not on a motherboard designed for DDR2 memory. They have different shots and pin-outs.

What are the different degrees of speed of DDR2 vs DDR3 memory available?

DDR2 memory is available officially available in the speed range of 400 to 800 Megabits per second. DDR3 memory is now officially available in the speed range of 800 to 1600 megabits per second. The speeds of 800 Mbps in DDR and more than 1600 in DDR3 are also available, but are not officially supported.

This is very good question. The real performance measure is the motherboard, CPU, among other things, makes the comparison difficult. However, there has been no significant improvement in performance between DDR2 and DDR3, even with the sharp increase in frequency. It is only after DDR3-1333 to begin to see something real in terms of improved performance. Several benchmarks have been reported 5% to 1% improvement depending on the configuration of memory and speed grade of memory that is being compared.

I listened that the latency of DDR3 memory cache is higher than DDR2 memory. And this creates DDR3 memory slower than DDR2 memory.

You are correct in that the latency of DDR3 memory cache is higher than DDR2 memory. Cache latency is defined in the time between the issuance of the order of reading the processor and when the data actually available memory. It is measured in units of clock cycles. Larger cache latency DDR3 in the media becomes slower. However, the cache latency is not the only thing determining the overall performance and speed of DDR3 memory. The higher speed DDR3 memory more than compensates for the problem of latency of the cache.

What about power consumption? Which of these two memories consume less energy?

DDR 3 memory was designed with energy in mind. DDR3 consumes considerably less power than DDR2 memory. This helps especially for notebooks that are supposed to run on batteries and battery life is a concern.
