IF YOU'RE GOING the AMD route for a high end workstation, the board to match it is the Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe Wi-fi. Based on the AMD 790FX chipset, this board has all the features you could need, plus more. There are four PCI Express 2.0 slots, which can support four video cards for CrossFire X. The board also has a wireless access point built in, so you don't need to buy a separate wireless router.
The passive heatsink for RAM can be attached to the motherboards cooling solution, and this is a feature that we haven't seen before. The board performs well when paired with an AMD Phenom processor, and the plethora of connectivity means that it can perform well in many roles.
It has ten USB 2.0 ports, six soldered on the rear panel and four available through two head¬ers, and this motherboard comes with an I/O bracket with two ports. This mother¬board has also two Firewire ports controlled by an Agere L-FW3227 chip.
Runners up: The MSI K9A2 Platinum is based on the same 790FX chip, and offers good performance. The Asus M2N32-SU, though based on the older Nvidia 590, is still a good buy if you need SU, and don't want to use a Phenom
