Since its inception, Nvidia's 8800 GT GPU has been a close contender of its big brother, the 8800 GTX Although the XFX 8800 GT Alpha Dog Edition-based on the former-has been crowned the 'Best Value' award winner in the high-end category, its performance is outstanding considering its price. Priced more than double, the 'Best Performance' award winner, Asus' Aquatank, it is merely nine percent better than the Alpha Dog in performance.
The core and memory speeds in the latter have been ramped up from its stock speeds, by 70 MHz and 75 MHz respectively. Heavy games such as Crysis and Call Of Juarez are playable at higher resolutions with low 2x and 4x AA turned on. Inspite of the form factor (single slot design), it doesn't heat up as much as the others. Although intended for mid-level gaming, hard core gamers can opt for it too. However, the latter need to ensure, that gaming at higher resolutions-1680x1 050 and 1920x1200 at medium and low settings-would require excellent cooling for their systems.
