Installing new RAM includes removal of existing slot of RAM and installing new RAM slot at its place. You can use this section not only to upgrade RAM but also replace a damaged RAM slot. Let us now undertake the following steps and learn to make changes to RAM.
1. Shut down the PC and open the case cover. On motherboard, locate the DIMM that you want to remove.
2. Pull up on the latches at the end of the DIMM socket. The DIMM will partially eject from the socket (Fig,MB-8).
3. Lift the DIMM up and out the enclosure ( Fig.MB-9)
4. Place the DIMM in an anti-static bag and store it in a secure location.
5. Rotate the ejector latches on each end of the socket so that they stand straight up.
6. If there is a plastic blank in the DIMM socket, remove it.
These blanks are installed in the factory to prevent damage to the socket during shipping.
7. Align the DIMM with the socket. Make sure that the notches on the bottom of the DIMM align with the protrusions in the bottom of the socket (Fig.MB-10).
8. Seat the DIMM in the socket and press down.lfyouha¥. seated the DIMM correctly, the ejector latches will swing up and click into place in the notches on the ends 01 DIMM (Fig.MB-11).
9. If necessary, repeat steps 2 through 5 to install a S DIMM. Ensure that both sockets in the DIMM bank full. DIMMs must be installed in pairs.
