Default Method for transmitting load Mixed speeds

I have a XP Pro laptop connected wireless on a 802.11g speed. Though, all connects via 802.11n. I have them all connected though as laptop was get and I reset the router to a mixed signal g/n I have poorer connect and random freezes. When I had an all 802.11n connection all was well.

I want to stop g and install an 802.11n USB on wireless laptop. The network was much better an all N network rather than a mixed.

    • Can I stop g in laptop? Bios?
    • Then would it create sense to install via an USB an 802.11N. Does it have to be a DLink product?

Router is a DIR655, A2, firmware 1.21 using a WPA2; the other wired PCs make use of Vista HP SP1.

    Hello,

It would normally not have to be dlink; an usb would likely be best option for laptop. Also, the easy thing to do for disabling would be to simply off the internal Wi-Fi via switch, most modern laptops have a physical switch that would stop wireless for purposes of conserving battery power when not in use. If you just leave that switch off, only the usb would connect. You could also go into your network connections and right click the internal wifi from there to stop it.
