Ok, I am using a Gateway P-7807u laptop. Wireless network card worked rightly when I first got it, but the video card was borderline dead on arrival so I had to send it back.
So I get my machine and I turn it on. Only to locate no wireless networks. So, after doing the diagnosis it happily tells me my wireless is turned off and must be turned on via physical switch or function key. So I switch on the front to off and then back to on again. No change. I press the FN + F2. No change.
I go to Windows Mobility Center and locate wireless. "Turn Wireless On" is all greyed out. I reinstalled the wireless card driver- no change. I tested under network manager and the wireless card is listed as enabled but not connected.
Any suggestions? If it turns out that the physical switch on machine was broken by the tech people at gateway- is there any way to avoid that?
