I buy a Dell Inspiron 530 running XP. Before had a Belkin wireless-g adapter installed. Decided to upgrade to N when Belkin broke so bought a d-link router and adapter. The router installed fine on my central PC but cannot get adapter to install on other desktop. Adapter will, though, install on the central PC, so even though device manager claims usb ports are all working well and there are no updated drivers, d-link tech support thinks that either usb ports are not 2.0 or that something is wrong with them.

So I went and got a USB 2.0 5-port PCI card, installed it, ran the set-up cd for adapter again, and nothing. When I plug the adapter in, the new hardware wizard identifies it, and then pops up with a message saying the device could not be installed and that a connected device may be defective. Even trying to plug it in when told to gives me a low 3 ding warning, instead of the usual 2 dings it gives you when you plug something in.

Here is what it is listed under devices by connection: KIDSCOMPUTER> ACPI multiprocessor PC> PCI Bus> Intel 82801 PCI Bridge 244E> Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller> USH root hub> Dlink DWA-160 Xtreme N Dual Band USB adapter (revB) The dlink has little yellow exclamation point over it that says it is not working appropriately.

When I aim to repair problem. I obtain the Hardware Update Wizard, which says Cannot install this hardware. There was a problem installing this hardware. An error occurred through the installation of device. A device connected to the system is not working.
