Default can't use a switch anymore help me

    Hello everyone,

I have Qwest DSL and have been using many switches to separate internet throughout house but, all of a unexpected, I cannot get any of them to work. If I plug the modem straight into PC it works well, but if I attempt to utilize any of the five port switches I own it will not access the internet. As far as I recognize none of the settings have been modified. The lights all light up and even flash when I try to open a web page but it will not connect. It detects the modem but it says only local access is available. My next resort is to buy a new modem with a switch built in, but that does not solve mystery of why it worked for two years and now does not anymore.

To confirm something. Ping your default gateway which is 192.168.0.1. Observe if you get an answer back. If you do and you still cannot get out to internet, open a command prompt window by doing Start->Run->type in CMD and click OK. A command prompt window will come up. At the prompt, type arp -a. Observe what PC lists as MAC address is for 192.168.0.1. See if there is a method to find out from router what it lists as its MAC address. If you cannot find this information, do similar steps above when you do have internet connectivity. Notice if the MAC address changes between working and non-working states for 192.168.0.1.

When you're connected through the switch, then again when you're connected without the switch, let's see some pings.

    Try these simple tests.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:
In the command prompt window, type following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:
    IPCONFIG /ALL
    PING computer_IP_address
    PING default_gateway_address
    PING dns_servers
    PING 74.125.45.100
    PING yahoo.com
Right click in the command window and pick Select All, then press Enter to copy the contents.
Paste the results in a message here.
<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)
<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.
<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.
If you are on a system with no network connection, make use of a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to move a text file with data to permit pasting it here.
