Thread: wireless Network is very slow to connect

I have set up a wireless home network using ADSL with following given components: TrendNet TEW- 432 BRP Wireless Router Dell Desktop with Windows XP OS hard-wired to router iMac desktop with Leopard 10.5.7 OS attached wirelessly

Compaq Presario Notebook with Vista Home Premium OS Service Pack 1 also attached wirelessly I am able to attach to network with all 3 but I have a problem with Notebook. It is very slow to connect or to locate the network. I have checked it using other notebook set next to my. This is a Dell using Windows XP. It manages to attach directly, so it cannot be a problem with placement or the router and the signal strength which is "very good" to "excellent".

I checked my connection again and it took so much time. I then took my laptop to local library and it took several minutes to attach to network.

The slow one is running Vista. That would be my first worry. But look online for latest vista well-suited wireless drivers for your card. Also eliminate IPV6 as you only want IPV4. Go to control panel then network connections right tick wireless card; then properties. On the box in networking shows "This Connection Uses the following items:" remove tick from left of "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)”, then click ok.

Sometimes motherboard or PC Company has to make modifications to an adapter's "raw" driver to make it work appropriately in system. Cautious people do not allow Windows Update or Device Manager Touch their drivers. Try latest driver from Laptop Company’s web site. Second, attempt Safe Mode with Networking.
