Thread: Using a proxy server firefox

I think myself to be relatively security conscious regarding my PC, but I am really not having ability. I used some tools to evaluate my security is GRC's "Shields Up" program. One of my ports came up as stealth and I assumed that all was fine. I ran "Shields Up", and port 80 was open, and some others were closed.

Here is the difference that I just got a job with an association in SE Asia which has its own proxy server. On LAN settings, I have tested "Use a proxy server for your LAN" and port given is 8080.

I have been doing a small piece of research on this, and I am more puzzled than when I started. From some information that I have read, it appears that "Shields Up" actually is not scanning my ports, but those of proxy server. Is this right? If so, what can I do to further defend myself? I would actually like to do online banking, but first I want to know how weak I am.

Yes. If done properly, the Shields Up port scanner should be scanning the proxy server. To validate, just do a test on what your public IP is when you go through proxy and when you don't.
